Purpose of a Site Map

 

There are many purposes for a Site Map, though the only reason this one exists if to ensure that search engine spiders and bots are able to index all of our pages. There's nothing here for the online surfer to see, since it's quite a bit easier to just use the navigation bar. 

Do I Need a Site Map for my Website?

 

Site maps (sometimes written as one word "Sitemaps") are generally a good way to improve search engine visibility because they enable all pages to be found by the search engine spiders and bots. Specifically, if your navigation is in flash or AJAX, for example, it is difficult or impossible for your content to be crawled by the search engines. Site maps can correct this problem.
